Frameworks & Guides

CERIS Strategy (Center for Emerging Research & Industry Strategy) Frameworks & Guides provide practical models and tools for navigating the intersection of higher education, industry, and regional economic development. These resources help institutions and regional partners design stronger academic–industry partnerships and coordinate efforts that support research growth and workforce development.

CERIS Alignment Model

Strong academic–industry partnerships emerge when institutional capacity aligns with industry workforce demand and regional economic strategy. This helps universities and partners identify where alignment exists, where gaps remain, and how to strengthen collaboration to support research growth, workforce pathways, and regional innovation. This is the basis for implementing the CERIS Roadmap.

CERIS Roadmap

The CERIS Roadmap translates the CERIS Alignment Model into a process for strengthening academic–industry collaboration. It guides institutions and regional partners through assessing current conditions, identifying alignment opportunities, and designing coordinated strategies that support research growth and workforce pathways.

Framework Example: Centralized Partnership Resource Hub

This resource hub shares materials developed during the prototyping of a centralized university-industry partnership model at an Emerging Research Institution. These tools provide guidance for universities exploring how to organize faculty expertise, industry engagement, and research opportunities within a coordinated partnership structure.

Menu of Project Sample

This project menu illustrates how universities can structure industry collaboration across multiple engagement levels from student projects to faculty research partnerships. Originally developed as part of a partnership hub prototype at an Emerging Research Institution, it demonstrates how institutions can create clear entry points for industry collaboration while supporting research growth and student learning.
